This piece is an interpretation of an ancient Egyptian lion’s head made of gypsum plaster in The Met collection, originally used as a model for stone waterspouts on temple walls. Crafted during a time when lion imagery shifted from stylized forms to more naturalistic representations, it functioned as both an architectural element and spiritual guardian. Eichholtz captures the form and energy of the original with reverence.
