Ceiling lights are the workhorse of lighting. They brighten a room without taking up space and are often the only light source available when moving in. Eichholtz ceiling lights range from flat ceiling bowls for low rooms to alabaster and smoked glass hemispheres that also act as objects in daylight.
Ceiling light or chandelier
The room height is decisive. Below 2.50 meters, a flat ceiling light is the right choice; it keeps the headroom clear and still acts as a designed piece. From 2.70 meters and above a table where no one walks underneath, a chandelier can hang. The most common mistake: only one light source
A ceiling light alone makes any room look flat. It illuminates evenly from above, casts harsh shadows on faces, and leaves corners dark. Good lighting works on three levels: ambient light from the ceiling, zone light from floor lamps and table lamps, and accent light from wall lights on pictures and objects. Diameter and position
As a rough rule for the diameter: room length plus room width in meters, the result in centimeters. A room of four by five meters can thus accommodate about 90 centimeters. The light belongs in the center of the area it is supposed to illuminate, not necessarily in the center of the room. Above a dining table, this means: center of the table, even if the outlet is elsewhere. A displaced outlet can be compensated with a canopy and chain.
Light, color, and dimming
2700 Kelvin is the tone that makes brass, gold, and wood look warm. Cool white light makes the same materials appear gray. More important than any light fixture is a dimmer: it transforms a ceiling light into a task light during the day and an ambient light in the evening. Suitable light bulbs in a warm tone are part of the planning; they determine the effect more than the price of the light fixture.
