Eichholtz Sofas

Eichholtz Sofas

The sofa is the largest piece of furniture in the living room and dictates the arrangement of the rest. Eichholtz sofas range from deeply upholstered models with soft velvet to sleek forms on visible metal bases. This page provides guidance on size, upholstery, and placement.

Finding the right size

Measure the room, not the sofa. As a rule of thumb, the sofa should occupy approximately two-thirds of the wall length it is placed against. If there is no space left and right, the room will appear cramped. Also, check the access to your home: door width, staircase, and turns often determine the model more than the floor plan. For difficult access, two smaller elements or a sofa with removable feet are the safer choice.

Seat depth and upholstery

Deep sofas with a seat depth of approximately 60 centimeters or more invite lounging but require back cushions for upright sitting. Shallower models are more sociable and better suited for rooms where entertaining takes place. Velvet offers color depth and sheen, while linen and bouclé appear calmer and are more forgiving of daily use; leather becomes more beautiful with age. Changing cushions are the easiest way to seasonally refresh the sofa's look.

The arrangement around the sofa

Two armchairs facing each other create a genuine conversation setting, whereas a single armchair can quickly look like an afterthought. There should be approximately 40 to 45 centimeters between the edge of the sofa and the coffee table. The rug is almost always chosen too small: at least the front legs of all seating furniture should rest on it. Side tables at the ends of the sofa accommodate a glass, a book, and a lamp.

Lighting around the sofa

A floor lamp behind or next to the seating group creates a reading nook that a ceiling light can never provide. Additionally, a table lamp on the side table creates a second island of light. Only this combination allows velvet and brass to truly shine in the evening.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large should the sofa be in relation to the room?

Approximately two-thirds of the wall length it is placed against. If there is space next to it, the room will appear spacious rather than cluttered.

Which upholstery is easiest to care for in everyday use?

Tightly woven fabrics and leather. Velvet is more resilient than its reputation suggests but should be vacuumed regularly in the direction of the pile.

Will a sofa fit through every door?

Not necessarily. Measure door width, staircase, and turning curves before ordering; we will gladly check the dimensions with you upon request.
