The Costa Smeralda is a market with a very narrow time window. Houses are inhabited from June to September, everything must be in place beforehand, and in October, they close. Those who do not plan for this rhythm will deliver at the wrong time.
The Season Determines the Order Time
In practical terms, this means: orders for the summer belong in winter. Manufactured goods with longer delivery times must be ordered by spring at the latest, otherwise they will arrive when no one is there anymore. In addition, craftsmen and transporters on the island are fully booked in early summer. For an overview of the timeframes, please see Delivery Time.
Wind is Stronger Than Elsewhere
The Maestrale blows strongly and regularly. Light furniture moves across the terrace, parasols require heavy bases, and anything standing upright will tip over. For outdoor furniture, this means: sufficient intrinsic weight, a low center of gravity, and the ability to quickly store cushions. Planters in a row act as a windbreak and are the most discreet solution.
Granite, Limestone, and Light Tones
The architecture of the Costa Smeralda uses local granite, white plaster, wooden beams, and gorse. Light, sandy tones, wickerwork, and plenty of texture complement this, see Coastal. Dark, heavy furniture appears out of place against white plaster and sea light. UV resistance is also important: the light here is harsher than on the Riviera, and light fabrics tolerate fading better than dark ones.
Transport to Sardinia
Everything arrives via ferry, mostly from Civitavecchia, Livorno, or Genoa. This extends the delivery time and makes it seasonal. On-site, the access roads to many villas are narrow and winding, sometimes unpaved. A large semi-trailer cannot access these, so goods are transshipped. This final leg should be discussed in advance.
