Inspiration
The Floor Lamp Thomas is an homage to the intricate Chinese fretwork that first appeared in England in the early 18th century. By the midcentury, it became a hallmark of elegant furniture, as seen in Thomas Chippendale’s (British, 1718–1779) influential 1754 publication, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director. The model for the pair of mahogany candlestands (1755–60) that inspired this lamp was featured in the first edition of Chippendale’s book. "
