The Path Determines the Dimensions
From the boat to the apartment, the path leads over a landing stage, often over bridges with steps and through doors that are narrower than average. Practically, this means: disassembled furniture, modular sofas, tables with removable tops. A large, single-piece sofa cannot be delivered to many addresses. The costs for the boat and porters are added to the freight and are arranged on-site.
Humidity and Acqua alta
The humidity is high all year round; on the ground floor, water enters the room during high tide. Therefore, the living area is traditionally located on the Piano nobile, the first floor. Nothing that cannot tolerate water belongs on the ground floor. Solid wood works strongly in this air; glass, stone, and metal are more resistant.
The Piano nobile Accommodates Grandeur
The main floor has high ceilings, large windows facing the canal, and often a long central hall. A chandelier is not merely an ornament there, but the element that organizes the hall. Wall mirrors between the windows double the light from the water.
