Luxury Furniture Côte d'Azur: Furniture for the French Riviera

From Saint-Tropez to Menton, the distance is approximately 150 kilometers, and along this stretch lie places that could hardly be more diverse: a large city inhabited year-round, holiday resorts that are deserted in winter, a city-state with its own building regulations, and villa areas where a single plot of land is larger than half a village. An interior design that is suitable for Nice may be inappropriate in Saint-Tropez. This page explains what unites the region nonetheless and then guides you to the individual locations. Casa Luxury delivers to France and Monaco; the showroom is located in Essen.

What applies to all here: Salt, Sun, Mistral

Three forces act more strongly on this coast than inland, and they are the reason why furnishing errors become visible more quickly on the Riviera. Salt in the air corrodes metal, even coated metal, and creeps into screw connections and under covers. The sun is high and intense at midday; light textiles in south-facing rooms visibly fade over a season, and dark woods expand and contract. The Mistral carries fine dust across every terrace and can overturn lightweight furniture. Practically, this means two things: indoors, do not place the seating group in direct midday sun; outdoors, use only furniture explicitly designated as outdoor products, such as outdoor sofas and outdoor dining tables with weather-resistant frames and UV-resistant covers. Indoor furniture will not survive a summer here, even under a roof.

The locations and their specific requirements

Nice is the only city on the coast that is inhabited year-round. Furniture here is for daily life, not just for the season, and the Belle Époque buildings in Carré d'Or require chandeliers and wall mirrors beyond standard dimensions due to their ceiling height.

Monaco is the opposite: the most expensive real estate in Europe, consequently compact, but with a high standard of finish. Here, it is not the size of the furniture that matters, but its footprint, which is why side tables and narrowly-footed upholstered furniture are more effective than large standalone pieces.

Cannes is divided into the Croisette and the hills: narrow, tall apartments on the promenade versus spacious villas in Californie, the latter featuring correspondingly long dining tables. A high proportion of properties are rented out temporarily, especially around the festival and congresses.

Antibes presents three challenges in one city: villas on Cap d'Antibes directly above the water, a dense old town behind the ramparts, and holiday apartments in Juan-les-Pins. In the narrow old town apartments, table lamps contribute more to the ambiance than any ceiling light.

Saint-Tropez is the place where the outdoor area is the main living space. Usage is concentrated over a few months, almost entirely outdoors, meaning on outdoor armchairs and outdoor coffee tables rather than in the living room.

Second Home means: Delivery without Presence

A large proportion of properties on this coast are not permanently occupied. This is not a minor detail for furniture delivery but a central issue, as a freight shipment requires someone on-site to receive, inspect, and sign for it. In practice, this is handled by a caretaker, a property management company, or the supervising interior designer. Before ordering, please clarify who this person is and within what timeframe they are available. Secondly: If an apartment is closed for months, textiles and veneers should not spend the winter in a closed, south-facing apartment. Closing shutters and allowing ventilation makes the difference between ten and twenty years of service life.

Delivery and Customs in the Region

  • France is within our EU zone. Tariffs are staggered by weight and can be found under Shipping Costs and Delivery Times. No import duties apply; the shopping cart price is the final price.
  • Monaco also, despite its independent statehood. The Principality belongs to the customs territory of the European Union and is treated like France for VAT purposes. Therefore, no customs duties are incurred for deliveries there either. The fact that Monaco is listed separately in our shipping table is a logistical classification, not a customs one.
  • Parcel or Freight. Lights, mirrors, and accessories are sent as parcels; large furniture is sent as freight on a pallet with a pre-arranged appointment.
  • Access is almost always the bottleneck. Old towns with bollards, hillside locations with tight turns, promenades without stopping possibilities, and property gates that no articulated lorry can pass through: These issues cause delivery failures more often than anything else. We clarify this before the appointment.
  • Plan for the season. Between June and September, deliveries are restricted along the entire coast, in addition to festival, trade fair, and race weeks with road closures. If you wish to furnish by a specific date, you should order early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there customs duties for a delivery to the Côte d'Azur or Monaco?

No. France is in the European Union, and Monaco, despite its independent statehood, belongs to the customs territory of the EU and is treated like France for VAT purposes. The amount shown in the shopping cart is the final price.

Who accepts the delivery if the property is a second home?

A freight shipment must be accepted and signed for on-site. Typically, this is handled by a caretaker, a property management company, or the supervising interior designer. Before ordering, please clarify who will take responsibility and when this person is available, then we will coordinate the appointment accordingly.

Which furniture can withstand the coastal climate outdoors?

Only those explicitly designated as outdoor products, with weather-resistant frames and UV-resistant covers. Salt corrodes even coated metal and creeps under covers; indoor furniture will not last a summer here, even on a covered terrace.
